Defining your macros on ServCalc

Protein – All of your animal-based foods, beef, chicken, pork, fish, and most dairy products like cheese, are categorized as protein. Although many plants contain protein, they are categorized as carbohydrate. Exceptions include some soy products, like tofu. There are manufactured plant protein products such as Beyond Burger that can be used as proteins. The app will guide you in choosing the right category. The ServCalc algorithm will account for all proteins whether animal or plant sources.

Carbohydrate – All of your plant foods, like green leafy vegetables, legumes, grains, and root vegetables are categorized as carbohydrate, with the exception of some soy and manufactured plant protein foods. The ServCalc algorithm will account for all carbohydrates whether animal or plant sources.

Added Fats - All of your oils, animal fats like tallow and lard, dairy fats like butter, ghee and heavy cream, and some plant whole foods like avocado and macadamia nuts can be categorized as added fats.
